It is important to seek psoriasis treatment. If you do not seek a suitable treatment, you can get nasty ulcers and sores.  Additionally, your joints can become inflamed.  This means that psoriasis can lead to arthritis should it be left untreated.  Arthritis can be painful and disabling.  You can find that you would be unable to perform simple chores because of the pain in your joints. The quality of your life is severely affected because of this.

Here are a couple of conventional treatment options for psoriasis:

1.    Topical treatments are often recommended by skin specialist for mild to moderate flare ups of psoriasis.

2.    Photo treatments are often recommended by some experts for moderate to severe cases of psoriasis.  This includes light, usually ultraviolet light, being applied to your skin.

3.    Systemic treatments are available for moderate to disabling form of psoriasis.  This treatment is taken either orally, by injection or by infusion.  One such product is Theraflax.  While this may help you, the effects are still random.

Most drug treatments should not be used over an extended period.  You should seek the advice of your skin specialist to decide on the best treatment option.

Psoriasis PicturePsoriasis is an autoimmune skin disorder said to be with a genetic component. It can be extremely disabling. Psoriasis symptoms include widespread redness, roughness, severe itching and pain, with white flakes. It is hard to tell this condition apart from other types of skin disorders such as eczema. Even with psoriasis, there are different types.  The picture on the left is just one. For a proper diagnosis and assessment, your skin specialist will have to examine your psoriasis symptoms. Not much is known about the specific causes of psoriasis.  Part of this is because until the past 10 years, psoriasis has been an under-researched condition. It is only recently that psoriasis is discovered to be genetic.

Psoriasis symptoms appear in patients generally between 15 and 35 years old.  It affects both men and women and it also appears that Caucasians are more susceptible to it.

This condition is also non contagious.  However, sufferers often feel depressed and sensitive about their psoriasis symptoms.  Self esteem and confidence can be very low.
