Beware of Fake Chinese Herbal Remedies For Eczema
Filed Under Eczema Treatment, Herbal Remedy For Eczema, Natural Eczema Treatment | 2 Comments
Many of us may be lured by the idea of using Chinese herbal remedies for eczema. You would be tempted to think that since they are natural, they should be better alternatives to using corticosteroids, right?
That was what one of my subscribers, an American, thought. She wrote to me about a pending trip to China and wanted to find out what to get for eczema relief.
My skin dermatologist had earlier warned me that while she was in no position to refute the benefits of using herbs for eczema, there have been several reports of fake products that come from China proclaiming a cure. For all that is worth, there may be steroid ingredients in them. If these products appear to work, you would have been mistaken into thinking that you were miraculously cured.
I promptly replied to this subscriber that she should be aware of products with dubious claims. Ingredients on the bottle may be written in Chinese and do we really know what goes in there? Many of the products are not properly regulated. I wouldn’t risk applying a large jar of Chinese herbal remedies on myself, with little knowledge on what it is made up of.
It was the same with an eczema cream that was given to me by a relative from Penang, Malaysia. She told me that it was a proprietory miracle cream that can only be obtained from her hometown. I have a suspicion that it contains corticosteroids. I cannot prove it, though but my instincts tell me not to use it.

A herbal remedy for eczema is the evening primrose oil. The scientific name of evening primrose oil is Oenothera biennis L. It is a herbal remedy that is rich in omega-6 essential fatty acids (EFAs) and the very rare gamma-lineolic acid (GLA). These properties keep the skin from being dry and reduce the chance of inflammation. The evening primrose is a herb that grows in mild climates. Although it is grown in many parts of the world, it is mostly cultivated in Canada and the US. The seeds of the evening primrose is used to produce the volatile oil used in medicines and cosmetics.
Some types of eczema are caused by blood impurities, which in turn also results in blood clots. And this is where evening primrose oil can help. Evening primrose oil effectively decreases the risk of blood clots and it does it by reducing the aggregation of the platelets in the blood.
A regular supply of evening primrose oil herbal remedy for eczema is recommended. EFAs can only be obtained from diet. They cannot be produced by the body. You can take it in the form of capsules or liquid form. Check with your dermatologist on a suitable dosage in the case for your eczema condition.
