Can’t Get A Date Because Of Eczema Symptoms?
Filed Under Eczema Symptoms, Eczema Trauma | 2 Comments
“I’ve been feeling self conscious about my looks ever since I’ve had eczema symptoms from a very young age. I’ve never felt beautiful. My social life is badly affected. I do not dare look at another person straight in the eye. I tend to look away or lower my eyes. Needless to say, I’ve never been asked on a date. And neither do I have the confidence to ask someone interesting on a date. Eczema has ruined my life.”

This is what a subscriber wrote to me, sharing about how eczema has affected her confidence. I felt sad when I read her email. It is true that [tag-ice]eczema[/tag-ice] affects a person not just physically but emotionally as well. Choices in life can become severely limited because of the inflictions of a skin disorder. While it is easy to say that inner beauty is more important than outer, I have to recognise that ecologically, outward appearances have always played a key factor, in getting first dates with members of the opposite sex.
Dealing with [tag-dtec]eczema[/tag-dtec] is no easy matter, hence. It should be based on a holistic approach; that is mind-body-spirit. Where there is balance, health is restored. If Sarah feels stressed or become more anxious about life or her appearance, it may in fact worsen her eczema symptoms.
For the [tag-tec]eczema[/tag-tec] sufferer, it is important to remember that it is not just the first date that can help you gain a lifetime partner. I can attest that with enough self confidence and positiveness, others will naturally be attracted to you. The person who recognises your inner beauty and hangs around beyond many dates is the one worth waiting and fighting for.

Eczema Can Cause Depression
Filed Under Eczema Trauma | 4 Comments
I’ve got many subscribers writing to me about about the emotional suffering that they go through with having eczema. They reported about feeling embarassed and being self conscious about going out. Although eczema is hardly contagious, they noted the negative reactions from strangers or even friends. At the workplace, colleagues who do not understand about eczema reel away from them. Their jobs or career path are in jeopardy because of their eczema skin condition. These feelings caused them to feel isolated, alone and depressed.
Here are some typical quotes from the effects of having eczema:
“I feel utterly hopeless and am at a loss as my eczema is out of control and I cannot stop itching.”
“I can never go swimming in a swimming pool as the chlorine in the water would set off a reaction. I can only watch enviously by the side while my friends and family enjoy themselves.”
“It is summertime. Instead of turning up in something sexy like a bikini, I have to wear long sleved shirts.”
Out of all these cases, one email stuck out. A subscriber wrote to me about her friend’s daugther who has been having eczema. The girl in question is a teenager and have been battling eczema rashes that affected her self esteem. She felt so bad about her appearance and perhaps together with other issues as well, decided to commit suicide. Fortunately, she was saved in the nick of time. She is now undergoing treatment and counscelling.
