Feeling Self Conscious Because Of Eczema Symptoms
Filed Under Eczema Skin Symptoms, Eczema Trauma, Eczema Support | Leave a Comment
You can feel extremely self conscious about your appearance because of your eczema. As a result, you may prefer to cover up your entire body from head to toe or even tempted to use cosmetics to hide the flare ups on your face. Unfortunately, not allowing your skin to breathe or using the wrong type of products on your affected skin can aggravate your condition further.
Depression can hit you if your eczema develops with blisters and bubbles caused by allergies and inflammation of the skin. This form of eczema is known as allergic contact eczema (also referred to as allergic contact dermatitis) and irritant contact eczema.
If you suffer from depression as a result of eczema, you may decide to withdraw all social activity and keep to yourself. You become very sensitive when you notice that others recoil at the sight of your appearance. Your self esteem becomes low.
It is best that you seek some help if you find yourself feeling very miserable about looking unsightly. Get support from your family. Talk to a professional counselor if you need to. Letting others whom you need to come into contact with, know that you are not suffering from an infectious condition can also help to reduce your stress as well as theirs. Have the confidence to believe that what matters is the spirit within your soul, rather than outward appearances. Find ways to nurture yourself in every way, while you wait for your skin to recover!

My husband has been pretty sympathetic and has been my rock as I go through my eczema pain. Ouch…it hurts not just physically but also emotionally. In the mornings I would wake up with dread. The rampage on my legs the night before would leave me with scar marks or bleeding stains. I fear examining them as they can look blotchy and that leaves me in dispair that my itch has not stopped.
My two daugthers (aged 5 and aged 3) would also be pretty sympathetic to the plight and condition of my legs. They would tell their daddy that mummy bled herself again.
My mum has decided to cook special dishes for me on the side whenever I visit her. Vegetables are fried plain with garlic and soya sauce. For others, she would use Lee Kum Kee oyster sauce to fry her vegetables. But I am abstaining from oyster sauce at the moment. Also, I had to watch my brothers and everyone else eat the aromatic curry chicken or the sambal prawns while I have steam fish. Am I tempted? Just a tinge. But I am standing firm this time to be watchful of my diet.
