You know her as America’s Next Top Model. Now she’s signed on as spokesperson for the National Psoriasis Foundation. In this video, CariDee shares about the skin disease that she was inflicted with, at the age of 5 years old.
While she appears to have conquered her disease or at least kept her symptoms under control, she now aims to inspire others not to lose hope. Her message to psoriasis sufferers is that it is possible to live one’s dreams.
It is great that the National Psoriasis Foundation in America has found a well known personality to help bring about greater awareness. And such a beautiful one too! I wonder if there is anyone to speak for eczema. It’ll be wonderful to also have one inspiring role model to look up to too!
Well, going forward, I’ve decided to feature more postings on psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin disorder that is so similar to eczema in its symptoms and effects on the mental state of the sufferer. So do stay tuned!

Prebiotics For The Prevention of Eczema

More updates about using prebiotics for prevention of eczema in babies have just been published. Clinical studies, presented at the International Symposium on Early Nutrition Programming in Granada (Wednesday 23rd April 2008) have found that certain types of bacteria residing in the gut of babies with a family history of allergic conditions can reduce the number of babies who go on to develop eczema.
The studies offer hope that, with the use of the right bacterial strains and appropriate prebiotic mixtures, babies’ natural defences can be boosted; thus reducing their risk to eczema. A natural source of prebiotics is also found in breastmilk, once again lending support to the idea that babies whose mothers are allergy sufferers, should be breastfed as much as possible.
Consuming prebiotics is definitely a much better and safer solution, as compared to the use of steroids, to the problem of growing eczema cases. These findings also clearly indicate the close relationship between gut health and eczema. Improving your gut health can possibly help you heal from eczema. Dietary considerations once again, cannot be underestimated in its role to fighting eczema. Hence, I’m happy to report that the results of these studies continue to support the contents published in my book, Eczema Diet Secrets.
Following the research findings, I’m hoping to read more publications about prebiotics and where to get them. Do stay tuned for further updates.
