Putting On Make Up When You Have Eczema On The Face
Filed Under Care for Eczema Skin, Eczema On The Face
Females are always asking for advice about what make up to use when they have eczema on the face on chat forums. This makes me wonder why they would want to do that when I would think it is better to let the skin breathe. Anything synthetic or any fragrance contained in the cosmetics is going to worsen the already itchy and blotchy skin. Alas, from the many complaints I read, cosmetics under known brand names like Clinique or Estee Lauder are not totally safe.
I wonder if it is because they need to go to work and therefore, having to look professional means having to put on make up??? Or is it because one feels insecure and hence, compelled to hide under layers of thick foundation to cover up the blotchy skin??
I’ve yet to come across natural skin care cosmetics that can help if you have eczema on the face. Can there truly be a foundation that evens out your skin tone, lets your skin breathe, brings out a natural shine even while you have eczema on the face? I’ve never bothered to look for natural skin care cosmetics because I’ve long given up applying much make up (except on special occassions) ever since I became a stay at home mom.
How about just applying some natural skin moisturizer and then slap on a dash of lipstick – would that be sufficient to brighten up your face? Any comments or feedback would be appreciated.

I’ve been using Dermacorrect Clinical make-up from Dermacol for about a year now and I must say that it is great. I do not use it as make up but rather as corrector for some pink spots on my face caused by eczema. I do not feel comfortable at work, at parties, etc walking around with pink/red spots all over my face.
I came to the site for advice–not to be judged. I don’t have the luxury of being able to stay home; I work in an office & want to look professional. Please lighten up on people & accept that everyone has their own reasons for this–whether valid to you or not. Thank you for your time.
Sometimes it’s hard for other people to do that though. I’m only 15, turning 16 years old, and I hate going to school with red blotchy spots all over my face.
It’s hard to deal with the peer pressure because not only people people ask what is wrong with your sing or do they stare, you have to suffer looking at all the other girls with their most likely flawless skin.
Sometimes during school it does make me upset because I’m going to be a Junior next year and I’ve had eczema since I was only 3 months old. So when I look at all my classmates it makes me just wish that I had their skin and be normal for once. But instead I just cover it up by wearing quarter sleeved shirts and jeans and applying cover up on my face to avoid people seeing the red spots on my neck and face.
Hello Mary, I am not judging you or anyone who chooses to put on make up even with eczema on the face. If you read my post carefully, I use the phrase “wonder” several times to denote my bewilderment and have also asked for feedback on the issue.
I do not deny finding it odd that the very product that many ladies choose to use, is the one that is the trigger to their eczema problem.
I asked if “one feels insecure and hence, compelled to hide under layers of thick foundation to cover up the blotchy skin?” because that was what a health practitioner had observed of his patients and asked me what I thought.
I cannot advise any of my readers on what to do because I am not in a position to. I can only share my tips and findings with regards to my own journey. It’s up to my readers to investigate if these tips are worth considering for their own cases.
With much thanks and appreciation for your feedback,
Evelyn
