One of the possible causes of eczema is due to genetic reasons. Studies have shown that in most cases, atopic dermatitis, the most common form of eczema, is inherited from either one or both of an individual’s parents.

A patient who has one parent suffering from eczema has a one-in-four chance of developing the condition. If both parents have it, then the chance is increased to one-in-two chances. In fact, most children with individuals who have both parents with eczema do indeed develop the skin disorder. Studies also show that many people who develop eczema also have a genetic tendency to develop other allergy related health problems such as hay fever and asthma.

It would appear to me that these findings do not really apply to me. While I am an eczema sufferer, both my parents did not suffer from this disorder. Hence, I would attribute the causes of eczema in my case to be due to other reasons, like allergies and high toxicity.

Also, both my children do not suffer from [tag-ice]eczema[/tag-ice].  Nevertheless, I note that they have especially dry skin, . Although they have not exhibited eczema symptoms, I try my best to ensure that they do simple measures such as drinking enough water, eating fruits and vegetables, taking probiotics and applying moisturizer every day. They still remember my battles with eczema and do not want to “end up with ugly looking skin” like mommy.

But yes…I have seen my friend’s 6 month old kid with [tag-tec]eczema[/tag-tec].  It is not a pretty sight.  My friend and her father have been battling [tag-dtec]eczema[/tag-dtec] since young.  So it is possible that the causes of eczema have a genetic link that runs in this family.
