“I’ve been feeling self conscious about my looks ever since I’ve had eczema symptoms from a very young age.  I’ve never felt beautiful.  My social life is badly affected.  I do not dare look at another person straight in the eye. I tend to look away or lower my eyes.  Needless to say, I’ve never been asked on a date. And neither do I have the confidence to ask someone interesting on a date. Eczema has ruined my life.”

This is what a subscriber wrote to me, sharing about how eczema has affected her confidence. I felt sad when I read her email.  It is true that [tag-ice]eczema[/tag-ice] affects a person not just physically but emotionally as well.  Choices in life can become severely limited because of the inflictions of a skin disorder.  While it is easy to say that inner beauty is more important than outer, I have to recognise that ecologically, outward appearances have always played a key factor, in getting first dates with members of the opposite sex.

Dealing with [tag-dtec]eczema[/tag-dtec] is no easy matter, hence.  It should be based on a holistic approach; that is mind-body-spirit. Where there is balance, health is restored. If Sarah feels stressed or become more anxious about life or her appearance, it may in fact worsen her eczema symptoms.

For the [tag-tec]eczema[/tag-tec] sufferer, it is important to remember that it is not just the first date that can help you gain a lifetime partner.  I can attest that with enough self confidence and positiveness, others will naturally be attracted to you.  The person who recognises your inner beauty and hangs around beyond many dates is the one worth waiting and fighting for.

I think I can help you here.

This is the 1st time I’ve ever discussed my eczema observations from years of having this affliction. I’ve been on a roller coaster over this for 40 years now and I’ve had to learn a few things on my own. I’ve had armchair (& regular) doctors tell me its caused by anything from “nerves” to “impurities in the blood” and a whole lot of other “nonsense”.

I lost a lot of time in solving my skin problem by putting too much trust in the hands of doctors and not trying to find my own answer. I figured that “they ought to know”. Truth is (at least for me) , they “don’t”.

I’ve found that 1st of all , eczema is either an “allergic reaction” or is caused by an “irritant” ( may be the same thing). In my case , I’ve had eczema between my right index and middle finger , forever. I used to go to the know-all Stanford Institute for treatment — a year later , no change. I used cold cream for years but that only made it less painful — it didn’t completely go away. Years later , I went to a doctor in Palm Springs and he took a specimen of my skin , looked thru a microscope and told me I had some kind of virus (don’t recall the name). He put my hand under an odd gadget saying he was giving me “zenotherapy” (the Z-ray) and prescribed tetracycline. For “whatever” reason , this worked pretty good but was too expensive to continue.

Finally (years later) I accidentally discovered my “true” problem after I “quit smoking for a year and a half”. Turns out I’ve been allergic to something in the smoke , all this time. 4 or 5 months after I quit , it all the sudden occurred to me one day that I hadn’t had any outbreaks in a long time. As proof , it didn’t come back until a couple of months after I started smoking again , only then, it started covering more of my body than ever before. I felt so dumb when I finally realized what was going on — I smoked and I hold the cigarette in the exact spot of my eczema — duh!!

But , until I quit again , I’ve found a very simple , cheap and non-toxic aid that keeps the eczema under control —- CALENDULA cream. Use it everyday for a week or so , then once a week (depends on results) after that. Works great !!

Conclusion , find the source of the allergy — smoking , lipstick , soaps , whatever , but in the mean time , use Calendula. If you find this to work for you , please pass it on to others , especially since doctors don’t want anybody but themselves to take credit for a cure (and it often takes years of “in your face” to finally get them to agree).

    Be happy !!!
