Yesterday, I met up with my ex-classmates for a hen party. One of my girlfriends is getting married finally! It was nice to meet up with 5 of them who could make it. We spent a long time yakking away.

That brought back many nice memories to me. We were all from the same class in Raffles Junior College, one of the top colleges (if not the top) in Singapore. Despite the fact that we were surrounded by some of the top scholars who were diligent in their studies, the 9 of us (all girls) would spend every school day yakking and laughing loudly in the school canteen. Even all the way home on the same public bus, as we found out that we stayed in the same vicinity, would we be laughing and singing. Yes….many did turn around to look and stare at us….but we were oblivious to all the stares….we were too busy caught up in our own little world.

Most of us have gotten married now and have kids. Even those who have been (like Anne, who is getting married now) and are single, lead very busy lives. We do not meet as a group as often now; perhaps once or twice every year. But when we do, we do not hesitate to set aside other commitments to come together.

So there we were yesterday afternoon, talking about old times and discussing about Anne’s coming wedding. She told us that it would be a formal affair and that to come in gowns. That was when I realised that it has been a long time since I wore an evening gown to a formal event.

Stephanie, the Shopaholic, advised that I go to Tangs to get one. However, I immediately recognised that I would have a problem with wearing any gown: I HAVE ECZEMA MARKS ON MY SHOULDERS AND MY BACK!

How do I find something that will help cover up from head to toe and sleved? Anne, the bride, suggested that for extra cover, I can use a shawl. Great suggestions, gals!

But all that did not stop the thoughts racing through my mind – No bustier? No spaghetti strapped gown? I want to look nice! How?

So I raided my wardrobe today. It has been a really long time since I reviewed the gowns I had. In any case, since my latest eczema outbreak, I often appear in T-shirt, long jeans and sometimes, a sweater as these were clothes that would cover my legs and arms sufficiently.

From the deepest and long forgotten corner inside my wardrobe, I finally found a shimmery blue bustier gown that I could fit – a gown that I wore only once before. Here is a picture of the eczema marks on my shoulders and arms that still remains:

My skin sure doesn’t look flawless. It’s easy for anyone to tell that I am suffering from a bout of eczema rashes. Needless to say, my legs still have eczema marks on them. This blue gown had a slit that is meant to show off my legs! Urgh…..
I am not sure if I will go shopping later for another gown. But what I sure need to do is to address the eczema marks on my shoulders, arms and legs; otherwise it will be tough to buy or even wear anything.

This definitely calls for more dedication to the care of my skin in the next one month. November 18 is the final date! I am setting a countdown to an exercise program to look toned and to get rid of my eczema marks in time for my good friend’s wedding!
